It’s not easy to find a nice hotel room conveniently located in NYC that does not break the bank. With my tight schedule on my recent trip, I couldn’t afford to spend extra time traveling around, but I also wanted to stay within a reasonable budget.
I was lucky because when I was looking for hotels there were some deals available. The Doubletree by Hilton Times Square West was available and discounted.
After our stay, I thought I would share our experience with the hotel. Read our review of the Doubletree Times Square West to find out if it is worth it to stay there.

About the Doubletree Times Square West Hotel
The Doubletree Times Square West Hotel is a relatively new hotel, completed in 2017. It is part of the Hilton Hotel Family which also includes prestigious brands like Conrad and Waldorf Astoria. You can earn and use Hilton Honors points at the hotel.

Location of the Doubletree by Hilton Times Square West Hotel
One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a hotel is its location. If it is convenient to the places you plan to go to, then it can save you time and also money if you can walk or use public transportation instead of taking taxis.
While this Doubletree hotel has “Times Square” in its name, it is not actually in Times Square. This is actually a good thing because that area is overcrowded. Instead it is a short walk away by the Port Authority Bus Terminal, which also has excellent subway connections. It’s also very convenient if you are taking the bus from Newark Airport into Manhattan.
With Times Square about less than 10 minutes walk, you’re not far from all the Broadway Theaters. It’s also walking distance to the High Line, Central Park, Bryant Park, Rockefeller Center (a must when you come to NYC for Christmas), MOMA, countless restaurants, and more.
The location of the Doubletree Times Square West Hotel is well-suited for exploring New York City for the first time or returning to see more.

Rooms at the Doubletree Times Square West Hotel
At the Doubletree Times Square West Hotel, they offer rooms with two double beds or one king. You can upgrade to get a room with a city view. This hotel does not have any suites.
We booked a standard king room for our stay. With our busy schedule, I didn’t think we would be in the hotel room too much, so the view wouldn’t be a big deal. Plus, there are several roof bars in the area which would have a better view than most hotel rooms.
Hotel rooms in New York City are typically small and the rooms in this Doubletree Hotel are no exception. There is not much room to walk around the furniture. I wasn’t too concerned as most of the time we would be in the room would be spent sleeping.
It’s a modern and stylish room where they make efficient use of the small space. In addition to the bed (which was quite comfortable), we had a large screen tv, desk, side tables, and other storage.
There was a safe, hair dryer, iron, and coffee maker too. They also gave us Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries.
Other than the size of the room which is to be expected in NYC, we didn’t have any complaints.

Amenities at the Doubletree Times Square West Hotel
While there are countless shops and restaurants around the Doubletree Times Square West, you will also find a small takeaway food place in the lobby where you can get drinks and snacks. For more substantial food, room service is available from 6:30 am to 11:00 pm through the Butler Menu.
At this Doubletree Hotel there is also a fitness center and business center on the lower level. The gym has stationary bikes, elliptical machines, and some weights.
Right next to the gym, you will find a small business center. The business center has two computers and a printer.
There is free WiFi throughout the hotel which we used to access the internet and make video calls. It worked well and we didn’t have any issues.
One other thing to note is that we did not receive the famous Doubletree chocolate chip cookies during our stay, but this may have been because of the pandemic.
Should You Stay at the Doubletree Times Square West Hotel?
It depends on what is important to you when choosing a hotel. Overall, I think this Doubletree does offer good value for the area, but when making your decision, you should consider the pros and cons.
Pros of the Doubletree Times Square West Hotel
The main reason I chose to stay at this Doubletree hotel was the location. It’s centrally located with lots of subway trains within a short reach. I didn’t want to spend any more time than necessary traveling around the city, and I figured we could save some money by not using taxis.
It’s also in a newer building. Everything feels new and all the fixtures are modern. We also didn’t have any issues with thin walls that can sometimes be an issue in more recent builds. There were no noise problems during our stay.
Cons of the Doubletree Times Square West Hotel
There are a few drawbacks to staying at the Doubletree Times Square West. I mentioned the small rooms, but keep in mind that will be an issue in most hotels in Midtown Manhattan. It might not be much of an issue if you plan to be sightseeing a lot during your trip.
The other thing that was an issue with this hotel was the elevator. In many cases, we needed to wait awhile to get on one. We were staying on the 8th floor and many times the elevators would already be full by the time it got to us. There also always seems to be a crowd waiting for elevators in the lobby.
There were some times when one of the three elevators was out of service, but luckily it was fixed quickly. Still, even when all of the elevators were working it the system was overburdened. I know many NYC highrise hotels (and other buildings for that matter) have this issue, but I would have expected a new building to have more elevators.

Is the Doubletree by Hilton New York Times Square West Hotel Worth it?
If you have your heart set on staying in the Times Square or Midtown area, this hotel is one of the better value options available. While it’s not a cheap hotel, it may be worth it to be able to stay at such a convenient location especially if you can find a discount or use Hilton Honors points. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean and quiet.

- Be prepared for a small room, it will make things easiest if you can pack light. Check out our packing tips for some suggestions.
